A properly flashed chimney is going to have an impermeable membrane, step-flashing, and counterflashing (flashed into) the wall face of the chimney.

Often, when a leak is occurring in or around a chimney, repairing/installing a roof is NOT ENOUGH, and often it’s prudent to examine the condition of your existing chimney.

Make sure you periodically check your chimney for water infiltration, especially after heavy rains accompanied by wind! Remember—Masonry is POROUS—one small crack can produce a high volume of water in a short period of time!
